January 19, 2009 Coober Oedy to Uluru

January 19, 2009.

We left Coober Pedy early because we wanted to travel when it was not too hot. We were lucky because there was a cloud cover and it did not heat up much. The country along the way appears very dry but have been told that it is greener than it was in mid December when they has some rain. All along the way there are signs that say to watch for kangaroo but the only ones that I was were on the signs . There are also signs that say to watch for cattle as we only saw a few, most cattle would have to wander far to get some grass out there.

Arrived at Uluru in time to check in and then drive out to see the sun set on the Ulura (Ayers Rock) there is a spectacular change in color. Then back to the hotel and dinner, have an early night as we have to get up early to see the sun rise over the rock.

January 20, 2009.

5:30 AM and we are up and ready to drive out to the sun rise area to see the sun rise and hopefully it would make a drastic change in the color of the rock, not as nice as the evening one, but nice all the same. Then we are off on a 5.8 Mile walk around the base of the rock, spectacular rock formations, did not walk on the rock as the aboriginals have asked that you do not and I want to respect their traditions Then it was on the the interpretation centre and to learn some about the aboriginal peoples of this area. Finally at 10:30 we are on our way back to our room and it is +30C . Does not feel that warm. Will spend the rest of the afternoon just looking around and then in the evening will go to a different area to take some photos of the sunset.

Will be here for another day as we have a tour planned.
